Release face
HDPE film — milky or natural
Overview
HDPE release film is the practical choice where a polyester liner is more film than the application needs. It carries the release function at a lower cost per metre and handles well on narrow-web tape and bag-making lines.
Two appearance grades are supplied: milky, which reads as an opaque white and gives good contrast against a printed face; and natural, which is closer to translucent. Which one suits depends on whether the operator needs to see through the liner on the line.
Standard supply is 40 micron at 19 mm width on a 3 inch core, at roughly 12 to 14 inch outer diameter. Gauge and width are both adjusted to requirement — 40 micron is the volume grade, not a limit.
Performance benefits
Cost-controlled release
Carries the release function where the dimensional stability of a polyester liner is not required, which keeps material cost proportionate to the job.
Milky or natural
Opaque milky for contrast against a printed face, or natural where the operator needs to see through the liner during application.
Slit to narrow widths
19 mm is the volume width for tape and bag lines; other widths are slit to requirement.
Gauge to requirement

How it works

Grade selection
Milky or natural is chosen against how the liner has to read on the line and in the finished product.

Extrusion and gauge control
The film is produced to the required gauge, with 40 micron as the standard volume grade.

Slitting
The web is slit to width — 19 mm as standard, or to your requirement.

Winding and inspection
Rolls are wound on a 3 inch core to 12 to 14 inch outer diameter and inspected before dispatch.

Ask a technical questionWhat is the difference between milky and natural HDPE?
Appearance. Milky reads as an opaque white and gives contrast against a printed face; natural is closer to translucent, so the operator can see through the liner on the line. The release behaviour is specified separately from the appearance grade.
Can you supply gauges other than 40 micron?
Yes. 40 micron is the standard volume grade rather than a limit. Share the gauge you need and the application it runs in and the team will confirm what can be produced.
Is 19 mm the only width?
It is the standard width because it matches the tape and bag lines this film usually runs on. Anything else is slit to your requirement.
When would you choose HDPE over a polyester liner?
When the application does not need the dimensional stability and thin gauge of polyester. If the construction runs at high line speed, holds tight registration, or has to survive a high-temperature process, polyester is normally the right answer. Describe the line and the team will say which applies.
